The rates of skin cancer continue to rise, with about 50% of new types of cancers being skin cancers. Melanoma is probably the worst type of skin cancer.
There is a new drug called sunitinib which shows promise in fighting a deadly form of metastatic melanoma. In some studies, it has shown a more than a 50% response rate in slowing/reversing the progress of the disease. This medication is not yet FDA approved, but appears very promising.
The best strategy against any type of skin cancer is prevention and early detection. It is very important to have your skin regularly examined for any unusual "spots".
Be sure you wear plenty of sunscreen every day to protect your skin and prevent premature aging.
