Early Intervention May Delay Aging SkinAs women approach and eventually go through menopause, their skin is rapidly aging leading to wrinkles, skin laxity, and skin thinning. According to Dr. Diane Madfes, estrogen supplementation and collagen stimulation are both effective at preserving the integrity of a woman’s skin. The topic of estrogen supplementation is controversial and beyond the scope of this article. We will focus on collagen stimulation.
If you are seeing wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity, or your skin sagging, it is best to intervene sooner rather than later before the receptors are lost. ![]() The first benefit of fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing is getting rid of the advanced signs of aging such as brown spots, sun damaged skin- getting a beautiful uniform skin tone. The second benefit is skin tightening: reversing the skin sagging. The third and most important benefit is the stimulation of collagen which leads to the reversal of fine lines and wrinkles. The overall effect is a healthier skin, less blemishes, skin tightening and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, making you look younger and your skin healthier! Pristine Laser Center is the leading provider of laser tattoo removal in Central Florida and uses multiple lasers to safely and effectively remove tattoos. Teenage tattoos are most regrettedStatistics show that about 20% of the American population has at least one tattoo. However, about 1 in 3 people between ages 18-30 has tattoo. A tattoo is meant to be permanent. However, some people will come to regret their tattoo either immediately after getting it or as they grow older. According to a new survey, the younger a person is when they get a tattoo, the more likely they will regret it later on in life.
Since most tattoo parlors will not tattoo anyone less than 18 years of age, younger individuals will often get a tattoo at a "tattoo party" where a "tattoo artist" with or without any experience will give them a tattoo. The problem with this scenario is that there is often an increased risk of infection or complications. Sometimes at these parties, the tattoo needle will be shared amongst several individuals which leads to a risk of Hepatitis C or even HIV. Therefore, it is important to really consider when and where a person gets a tattoo. If you regret getting a tattoo, luckily you do certainly have options. The best option is to go through a series of laser tattoo removal sessions to remove that unwanted tattoo. Getting a tattoo that is meant to be permanent is simple. Getting it removed is not so easy. Therefore you'd want to consider going to a medical office and having a medical professional with experience remove your tattoo. Be sure to ask them to provide you with photos of tattoos they have personally removed in their office. If you live in Orlando/Central Florida and would like to remove your tattoo, please call Pristine Laser Center at 407-494-0404 to schedule your free consultation.

Black Box Safety Warnings Will Be Required ![]() According to a recent survey, nearly 1 out of 3 girls in the 12th grade has used some type of indoor tanning equipment. This has been a cause for concern for years. After issuing many warnings about the risks of skin cancer associated with using tanning beds, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will now require black-box safety warnings that state that tanning booths, ultraviolet tanning lamps and other similar products should not be used in individuals under 18 because of concerns for skin cancer. The FDA is advising those under the age of 18 against using tanning equipment. However, it is not prohibiting the tanning salons from serving those under 18 years of age. Some states however have issued a complete ban against tanning bed use for those under 18. Many studies have found that children under the age of 18 who used tanning beds were at much increase risk of developing skin cancer. In one study, the American Academy of Dermatology found that people exposed to indoor tanning beds had a 59% increase risk of melanoma, the deadliest type of skin cancer. Pristine Laser Center encourages everyone, and most importantly those under 18, to avoid using tanning beds or UV tanning lamps. Not only does it increase the risk of skin cancer, but many studies have shown premature skin wrinkling and premature aging of the skin. We encourage everyone to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen product and to take steps to keep their skin healthy and beautiful. Keywords:

Are you getting laser hair removal or IPL hair removal? ![]() Recently, we had a client come in for laser hair removal consultation at our office. During the complimentary consultation at our office, the client mentioned that she's had a several "laser hair removal" procedures, but was still having issues with the hair coming back. After a little discussion, we decided to see what kind of "laser" was being used on her for hair reduction and may be we could figure out why she hadn't had a good response from her laser hair removal procedures. We decided to look on the website of the business this client was going to. Clearly, on their website it says "Laser Hair Removal" many times indicating they perform laser hair removal. But when we dug a little deeper and look at the machine that was being used, we found out that it was actually an IPL (intense pulsed light) machine. ![]() For people familiar lasers and lights, there is a huge difference between lasers and IPL. Lasers are much more powerful than IPLs. No reputable establishment would claim they are doing laser hair removal when in fact they are performing IPL hair removal! People should be clearly told what kind of machine will be used for hair reduction: IPL or laser. Some places play with words and say they do laser IPL procedure...there is no such thing. An IPL machine is not a laser! Soon, we will be posting a detailed article on the difference between a laser and IPL on our website. A New Strength of Retin-A Microgel Approved The FDA has approved a new strength of Retin-A (tretinoin) microsphere 0.08% made by Valeant. Tretinoins are indicated for the treatment of acne vulgaris. It is thought that tretinoins work by modifying abnormal follicular keratinization. By increasing the mitotic activity of follicular epithelia, tretinoin increase the turnover rate of thin, loosely-adherent corneocytes. Through these actions, the comedo contents are extruded and the formation of the microcomedo, the precursor lesion of acne vulgaris, is reduced. Retin-A microgel is currently available is 0.04% and 0.1% strength. The new 0.08% strength microgel will soon be available. For more information, please visit Valeant's website. Controversial Policy Set to Take Effect Soon ![]() All branches of the US Armed Forces have had some sort of policy on tattoos. These policies have been kept mostly unchanged through the years. But as the popularity of tattoos have soared and the number of tattoos on people's bodies increased, there have been some restrictions put into place. Recently, the United States Army has passed a new policy banning any type of tattoo below the knee or elbow. This new policy has been called very controversial and unreasonable. But this new policy has been a long time coming... According to reports, in 2006, at the height of the Iraq war, the US Army needed more recruits and the Army started allowing individuals to have tattoos on the hands and the back of the neck. However with the troop withdrawal from Iraq and the winding down of forces in Afghanistan, and the need to cut 80,000 troops over the course of the next 5 years, the Army can be a lot more selective in picking recruits. For now, the other branches of the Armed Forces will not be changing their current tattoo policies. With this new change set to take effect 2014, the Army will have the toughest tattoo policy out of all the branches of the Armed Forces. Soldiers that have existing tattoos will be allowed to keep their tattoos as long as it is not considered to be offensive. At Pristine Laser Center, we have been helping would-be recruits in removing their unwanted tattoos for many years. The laser tattoo removal process can take several months, so recruits need to plan ahead of time. While amateur tattoos can take only one or two treatments, professionally done tattoos will take multiple treatments.
With the new Picosure laser, professionally done tattoos have be removed much faster and in fewer treatments. Laser tattoo removal is a serious procedure that must be done correctly with the right laser and done by a medical professional. Done incorrectly, individuals might have a big scar over the tattoo. This scar will then be considered "branding" by the military and recruits will never be allowed in. If you live in the Orlando and Central Florida area and would like to remove your tattoos, Pristine Laser Center is here to help. With multiple lasers designed to remove tattoos, including the World's fastest laser, the Picosure laser, tattoos removal can be achieved safely and effectively.
