Controversial Policy Set to Take Effect Soon
All branches of the US Armed Forces have had some sort of policy on tattoos. These policies have been kept mostly unchanged through the years. But as the popularity of tattoos have soared and the number of tattoos on people's bodies increased, there have been some restrictions put into place.
Recently, the United States Army has passed a new policy banning any type of tattoo below the knee or elbow. This new policy has been called very controversial and unreasonable.
But this new policy has been a long time coming...
According to reports, in 2006, at the height of the Iraq war, the US Army needed more recruits and the Army started allowing individuals to have tattoos on the hands and the back of the neck. However with the troop withdrawal from Iraq and the winding down of forces in Afghanistan, and the need to cut 80,000 troops over the course of the next 5 years, the Army can be a lot more selective in picking recruits.
For now, the other branches of the Armed Forces will not be changing their current tattoo policies.
With this new change set to take effect 2014, the Army will have the toughest tattoo policy out of all the branches of the Armed Forces.
Soldiers that have existing tattoos will be allowed to keep their tattoos as long as it is not considered to be offensive.
At Pristine Laser Center, we have been helping would-be recruits in removing their unwanted tattoos for many years. The laser tattoo removal process can take several months, so recruits need to plan ahead of time. While amateur tattoos can take only one or two treatments, professionally done tattoos will take multiple treatments.
With the new Picosure laser, professionally done tattoos have be removed much faster and in fewer treatments.
Laser tattoo removal is a serious procedure that must be done correctly with the right laser and done by a medical professional. Done incorrectly, individuals might have a big scar over the tattoo. This scar will then be considered "branding" by the military and recruits will never be allowed in.
If you live in the Orlando and Central Florida area and would like to remove your tattoos, Pristine Laser Center is here to help. With multiple lasers designed to remove tattoos, including the World's fastest laser, the Picosure laser, tattoos removal can be achieved safely and effectively.

Misspelled Word the Reason for Laser Tattoo Removal
According to a recent report, Hayden Panettiere is having laser tattoo removal on a tattoo on her ribs. The 24 year old actress who first starred in the feature film Remember the Titans at the age of 10, reportedly has a tattoo on the left side of her rib cage.
She reportedly got the the tattoo in 2009 and it is an Italian phrase that reads "Vivere senza rimpianti" - live without regrets. Soon after getting the tattoo, she realized that the last word in the phrase should be "rimipianti". After living with the misspelling for a few years, she has decided that she doesn't want to live life with regrets and has decided to get laser tattoo removal.
Unfortunately, misspellings are not that uncommon. At Pristine Laser Center, we frequently see people coming in for laser tattoo removal on misspelling of names or words. Think Before You Ink
Health care researchers are advising people to research and think twice about where they get their tattoo. This after a study found a strong link between having a tattoo and hepatitis C.
Hepatitis C is disease that affects the liver and can eventually lead to death. Hepatitis C is a blood-borne disease that was most commonly spread through blood transfusion before 1992. It is also common amongst people who shared needles and inject drugs. The disease can be silent for many years before eventually over-taking the liver and causing death.
In the new study, it was observed that people with hepatitis C were 4 times more likely to have a tattoo, even when all other major risk factors were taken into account.
The Alliance of Professional Tattooists advises artists to use disposable gloves and disposable needles.
Some tattoo shops may take short-cuts and re-use needles or other devices which may pass viruses (hepatitis C) from one individual to another.
Do your research before you choose a tattoo shop. When you go, make sure you ask and observe that they use disposable needles and gloves.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently came out with a warning against getting tattoos from non-professionals (friends, family, people getting tattoos outside of a tattoo shop).
CDC researchers found that getting a tattoo from non-professionals carry the risk of getting Hepatitis C, a blood-borne liver infection.
There was no evidence that tattoos done by professionals carried Hepatitis C risk.
Hepatitis C is passed from individual to individual via infected blood. In the US, about 18,000 people are newly infected each year. When getting a tattoo, there is generally a little blood loss which needs to be handled appropriately.
If you are thinking of getting a tattoo, make sure it is done by a trained individual inside of a tattoo shop. As mentioned in a previous article, the state of Florida, as of January 1, 2012 has come out with new rules and regulations relating to tattoo shops. With the tighter regulations, there will hopefully be less chances of getting blood-borne infections such as Hepatitis C.
