Are you getting laser hair removal or IPL hair removal? ![]() Recently, we had a client come in for laser hair removal consultation at our office. During the complimentary consultation at our office, the client mentioned that she's had a several "laser hair removal" procedures, but was still having issues with the hair coming back. After a little discussion, we decided to see what kind of "laser" was being used on her for hair reduction and may be we could figure out why she hadn't had a good response from her laser hair removal procedures. We decided to look on the website of the business this client was going to. Clearly, on their website it says "Laser Hair Removal" many times indicating they perform laser hair removal. But when we dug a little deeper and look at the machine that was being used, we found out that it was actually an IPL (intense pulsed light) machine. ![]() For people familiar lasers and lights, there is a huge difference between lasers and IPL. Lasers are much more powerful than IPLs. No reputable establishment would claim they are doing laser hair removal when in fact they are performing IPL hair removal! People should be clearly told what kind of machine will be used for hair reduction: IPL or laser. Some places play with words and say they do laser IPL procedure...there is no such thing. An IPL machine is not a laser! Soon, we will be posting a detailed article on the difference between a laser and IPL on our website. In the meantime, make sure you are getting laser treatments and not IPL treatments.
