This week, we’ve had an unusually high number of patients come in for laser tattoo removal consultation who have used or are currently using a well known Tattoo Removal and Fade system to remove their tattoos. Unfortunately, their experience with this system has been, let's just say, not-so-good. For some of the patients, the product did absolutely nothing to their tattoos. These were the fortunate people. For others who used the product, it not only did absolutely nothing for the tattoo, it actually caused scarring and discoloration of the normal skin.
In a previous article, we noted that tattoo fading creams do not work! We explained the scientific reasoning behind it. Their product is not FDA approved. Their website indicates they use a “medical device” that is FDA approved to apply the product. Their claim that it will remove the tattoo is not approved by the FDA. We have yet to actually see or hear about anyone who successfully used this product or any of the tattoo fading creams.
As we have mentioned, the tattoo removal options for people with tattoos include: temporary covering with makeup, surgical removing the tattoo (which can lead to scarring), or non-invasive laser tattoo removal.
Tattoo removal with FDA approved lasers is quite effective at removing tattoos. Done by a licensed medical professional, laser tattoo removal is safe and has minimal if any side effects.
