Laser Tattoo Removal Gone Wrong!
Be Careful Where You Go!!!
Recently, we had a person come in for laser tattoo removal consultation. He explained that he had gone to another laser tattoo removal clinic (which shall go nameless) in Orlando for laser tattoo removal. They had done 7 laser sessions on his tattoo. He was concerned that his tattoo was not going away. He was also concerned about the results of his treatments.
When he showed us the results of his laser treatments, we were all in shock! He had laser burns, scars, and discoloration all from his laser treatments. Unfortunately, there was nothing that we could do for him. However, we did explain to him why/how they had burned him.
He asked us to take pictures of his tattoo and show our patients about what laser tattoo removal is NOT supposed to be!!!
Unfortunately, his story is not unique! Every week, we see a handful of people come into our office for consultation after they have been burned or scarred by other laser facilities. Unfortunately, once a person develops a scar or burn, there is not much that can be done.
Do your due-diligence before choosing a laser center. Previously, we discussed things to look for when choosing a laser center and 10 questions to ask before starting laser treatments.
Things you should be very careful about:
1) Make sure you are seen and evaluated by a physician. He/She should discuss the laser process, ask for medical history and inform you about the procedure. Most laser centers in Orlando do not have a doctor on site! Be careful!
2) Check on what kind of laser they use. If they are renting their laser, move on! You will never be able to make an appointment (they will have the machine once/month) and secondly, they won't have enough experience operating the laser. Some laser centers in Orlando claim they have the most advanced and up-to-date laser equipment. Do your research! They will often use technology that is 5-10 years old. One laser place here in Orlando consistently burns and scars people because they use technology so old that the manufacturer does not even make the laser machine any more.
3) Who does the procedure? Again, most places will not have a doctor on site. A tech/nurse/assistant will do the procedure. Ideally, you would want a doctor to perform the laser tattoo removal procedure.
